Here it is: the complete set of the final version of the Apple II = Technical=20 Notes, cross-referenced and reformatted for the Web, with the kind = permission of=20 Apple Computer!

For those who are not already familiar with them, these Notes are a = series of=20 technical tidbits and errata not covered in any of the official Apple = manuals.=20 They are organised roughly by topic, and numbered in order of = composition.=20 Originally they were distributed by Apple to registered developers, but = as Apple=20 no longer registers developers for the Apple II, and as the notes were = Freeware=20 anyway, they have been available for downloading online for quite some = time now.=20 Now, they are available in a more browser-friendly form as well, with = the added=20 feature of extensive cross-linking.

With every distribution of the Tech Notes, Apple included a Tech Note #0, = which=20 consists of general information about and a table of contents for the = rest of=20 the Notes, so I will not duplicate that effort myself. Also, an Index was = provided, as=20 well as a series of File Type = Notes, and=20 some sample Source=20 Code to demonstrate important capabilities and techniques. All are = available=20 here.

You can also download the Notes in an Apple = II=20 format. To my knowledge, this is the only Apple-II-formatted version = of the=20 Notes available online!

If you want to download the Notes in plain text format, they are = available=20 from the same archive = site from=20 which I got the copies that I modified here. This will work on an Apple = II, but=20 if you want the complete set it will require a lot more download time = (as the=20 files are uncompressed) and much more work (as each Note must be = downloaded=20 separately).

Those who are familiar with the Notes will notice that their format = here is=20 different from what they are used to. This is because HTML has = limitations in=20 how it can deal with things, and different browsers have different=20 interpretations of HTML formatting tags. However, every reasonable = attempt has=20 been made to keep the format of these Notes as true to the spirit of = that of the=20 originals as possible, and in any event no information has been deleted. = It's=20 all here; it just looks a little different.

This was a tremendous project, and it had some unforseen challenges. = I have=20 aimed for consistency across the entire set of notes, and this has = resulted in=20 occasional compromises in formatting. So, if you have any comments or=20 suggestions about the layout or features of this site, please send me a=20 message about it! Note, however, that I cannot change the wording or = content=20 of the Notes themselves, as they are copyrighted material. If you have = an issue=20 with them, you are better off contacting Apple Computer about it.

Finally, although Apple no longer supports the Apple II, the online = comminity=20 is strong enough that others have taken up the task of maintaining and = expanding=20 its documentation. Development of the Technical Notes has been passed on = to=20 Syndicomm, which has already released several new Notes. = The=20 collection here is only of the original Notes, written and originally=20 distributed by Apple Computer, Inc. Any enquiries made to me about the = new Notes=20 will be forwarded to Syndicomm, so you'll get faster results about such = matters=20 if you contact them directly.
